Steven is a heart-on-his-sleeve songwriter living in San Dimas, California.
His music ranges from the indie-rock of Jeff Tweedy, Stephen Malkmus, and Elliot Smith, to the Alt-pop of Maggie Rogers, Day Wave, and Hippo Campus. And when writing as Mr. Gee he’s written entire albums about video games he loves. (Songs in the Key of Minecraft, Songs in the Key of Fallout.)
As an artist, he has toured the country fronting Pushstart Wagon, Friction Bailey, and Steven and the Starlight. He also has five solo releases: We Will All Be Lifted (2009), And The Stars Will Guide Us Home (2010), Hallelujah Heartbreak (2017), Transitions (2022), and Lovin’ The Sinner, Lovin’ The Sin (2023).
HIs latest album, Chester Light Guiles, is an instrumental ode to his late father. A collaboration with his brother Dave Guiles to memorialize their father and share it with the world.
He is currently a member of the international recording group Dove Pilot (feat. Pedro Costa), and indie rock buzzers The Future Kings of Denmark (feat. Amanda West).
As a composer for film and television, Steven’s songs have been recently featured on Amazon’s Reacher, CBS’s Blue Bloods, FOX’s The Mindy Project, and ABC’s Friday Night News Special, Back to the Beginning with Christiane Amanpour. Additional songs on Showtime, MTV, NBC, AMC, NPR, and more.
His melancholy Christmas album (Friction Bailey’s The Silent Night) has over 1 million plays on Spotify. His tune Nuka Cola Love Song was viewed and played over 3 million times on Tik Tok and YouTube. And his song Perfect Timing (with Terrel Burt featuring Kesha Shantrell) was in the top 10 of the iTunes R&B and Soul charts for five days. This diverse range of placements underscores Steven’s ability to resonate with a broad audience, further solidifying his place in the contemporary music landscape.
